In the confined economy cabin of an airplane, exit row seats have always been preferred by most passengers for the spatial advantage over other rows. You can have a good chat with the flight attendances when flight take off or land. Moreover, you will have a less obstructive front view and not be disturbed by the sitting position of passenger in front of you.
Many airlines do not offer advance booking for exit row or some airlines will have a charge on that precious extra legroom. Still there are government regulation for assigning the exit row seat to the appropriate passengers.
As the name implied, these seats are next to the emergent exit door. Passengers on those seats have obligation should there be emergency. An appropriate person for this seat should be :
- physically and mentally healthy to perform or operate any safety or emergency device
- age 16 and above;
- ready and willing to help other passengers to evacuate the aircraft when needed
- must speak the language used by the crew on board for effective communication
- an independent passenger, no need to take care of minors or companion
- exit seats are usually next to washrooms that you have to stand for the smell
- the high traffic and waiting line after each meal could be disturbing
- wagons will be parked here most of the time during the flight. It can be a killing weapon when flying is unstable.
